We have finished the year with the most fantastic Arts Week where every child exhibited one work of art at our exhibition. You can view these right here by clicking on the links underlined below.
Nursery
The Nursery children worked busily on graffiti art. Their teachers prepared the ‘walls’ using block – sponge printing and once these were dry the children used paints or felt tip pens to leave their mark on their very own patch of wall. Well done, Nursery children – Banksy would be proud!
Reception
Reception’s chosen artist was Kandinsky. The children re-created their own versions of ‘Squares with Concentric Circles’ to music because this is how Kandinsky loved to paint. We are sure you will agree that the children were fantastically successful.
Year 1P
Ms Poisson used Arts Week to extend their topic on 'water'. The children used a wide range of materials to make their works of art of the seaside, ponds or rivers. If you look closely you will find chalk, charcoal, pastels and paints as well as glitter, tissue paper, card, tin foil and much more.
Year 1M
Ms Mackay and John worked on sculpture this half term with their Year 1s. They used their learning about Antony Gormley to build their own Field for Crowland which is based on Gormely’s work ‘Field for the British Isles’ (see this link). Many of the sculptures were made by children from other classes. Amazing photos, Year 1!
Year 2
Year 2 children learned about the artist Paul Klee. They used oil pastels and paint to create works of art in the style of some of his very famous paintings. We are sure you will agree that the children have done really well in understanding Klee’s use of shape and colour.
Year 3
Year 3 children looked at the colourful work of Sir Terry Frost. They created their own interpretations of objects and gave them abstract forms like Sir Terry Frost did. The children enjoyed his use of bold, solid colour and mixed their own colours to use in their paintings. Great work, Year 3!
Year 4
This half term, Year 4 learned about WWII. They spent some time looking at propaganda posters released at the time…and then they made their own using some of their favourite slogans. They have used mixed media to produce their very effective posters. Well done, Year 4!
Year 5
Henry Moore was the inspiration for the Year 5 children who used mod rock to create a 3-D cast of their own hands. They have provided a very colourful display and look striking against the plain backgrounds.
Year 6K
The children in 6K used charcoal and chalk to make rubbings of interesting surfaces. They used chalk and charcoal because both these are soft materials which would lift the texture onto the page. The ripped edges of their pieces of work emphasises their focus on texture. Lovely!
Year 6W
The children in 6W took a colourful approach to their project. They were inspired by the work of Andy Warhol who produced the famous multi-coloured images of Marilyn Monroe. The children traced around images of themselves before colouring with 4 different inks. For a tutorial on how to do this using your computer go to this link .
