Sex Education is not undertaken as a subject but included in PSHE and or Science lessons. Children’s questions are answered truthfully and simply, if, and when they arise.
Foundation Curriculum
The curriculum we provide in our Nursery and Reception classes is broad, balanced and relevant to each child’s development. It emphasise first hand experiences and encourages children to be actively involved and interested in their own learning. A high profile is also given to ‘learning through play’. Play is regarded as an essential part of the learning process. It is always carefully planned and learning objectives are clearly identified.
We follow the new Foundation Curriculum for our Nursery and Reception children.
However, in the reception class, as in the rest of the school, we believe we must meet the individual needs of every child and make sure each child fulfils his/her potential. In order to do this as effectively as possible, we consider a child’s ability rather than age. The activities and experiences we provide are usually planned according to ability, rather than age, and we feel strongly that if a child is clearly ready to progress beyond the Foundation they should do so. We feel that it is crucial to motivate, inspire and ‘stretch’ our children to achieve their full potential.
