Blooming Deansfield
Art Exhibition

The Dairsie Hall was transformed into an art gallery for an exhibition of pupils' artwork,
from Nursery to Year 6, based on the theme of Blooming Deansfield.
The central display was created from flowers, of recycled materials, made by every child in the school.

Nursery looked at a book called ‘Oliver’s Vegetables’ and talked about how they grow. They also looked at some paintings by Tilly Strauss.
They had lots of fun trying to be artists themselves by arranging a real basket of fruit and vegetables and recording their ideas in pastel drawings.
Reception B looked at Van Gogh’s ‘Sunflowers’ and
read the book ‘Camille and the Sunflowers’ by Laurence Anholt. They did some close observational paintings of real sunflowers.

Reception HT looked at paintings of flowers by Georgia O’Keefe and tried to copy her style of big and bold flowers. THey then used these ideas to work on fabric paintings and ICT pictures.

Year 1 created  group flowers using collage materials with each child contributing a petal.

Year 2 looked at the work of Cezanne and Courbet depicting still life compositions including fruit in baskets. They used pastels to make their own pictures of fruit bowls.

Inspired by the leaves and flowers in the school garden Year 2 made clay tiles with leaf and flower decorations.

Year 3 designed Pop-up flowers using pneumatics. The class looked at real flowers, made close observational drawings and then stylised them for the final product.

Year 4 made a collage of sewn animals and vegetation inspired by the luscious vegetation of the Amazon Rainforest and Rousseau’s picture of a tiger in the jungle.

Year 5 designed imaginary figures, using a variety of collage materials, to personify different aspects of nature .

6B's collages were inspired by the book When the forest meets the sea' by Jeannie Baker.

Deansfield’s lovely garden provided the stimulus for 6BL’s collage work.
