Helping Parents support ICT at Home

 

Here are several resources which provide information to parents on supporting their children in ICT. The information includes suggested specifications for computers, recommended software and where to buy it, how ICT is taught in school and how parents can support this at home.

Parent presentation

This is a powerpoint presentation which can be used to inform parents of the general information on ICT at School and at Home. There are 2 versions of this presentation, one can be used as part of a talk to parents on ICT, the other has been created in a loop so it can be left running during an open evening.

FAQ for Parents

This document includes answers to several frequently asked questions from parents. It includes information on suggested specifications for hardware, other areas they need to consider, where they can find information on the Microsoft Office for Students package and where they can buy recommended software. There is also the option to customise this document with the school address and logo.

Parents and ICT

This is a pdf file from both the DFEE and QCA which is titled 'Help your child discover computers in our lives'. It has been downloaded from www.parents.dfee.gov.uk/discover and gives more detailed information on how parents can support children with ICT.

Internet Safety

The Internet Proficiency Scheme has been developed to help teachers educate children on staying safe on the Internet. The scheme has been developed by Becta, the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) and the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) and aims to develop a set of safe and discriminating behaviours for pupils to adopt when using the Internet and other technologies.
