Process diaries to support the QCA scheme of work for KS1-2

These 24 process diaries are intended to be used in conjunction with:·

  • QCA/DfES units of work·
  • Design and Technology Association (DATA) Helpsheets (available from DATA: 01789 470007)

Each diary is in ‘MS Word 97’ format and can be easily amended as the teacher feels appropriate. Some of the diaries have been adapted to specific activities (eg 2C Winding Up – has been produced for children designing ways of rescuing Pussy from a well), while the majority have been left more general.

They cannot record all the decision making which occurs as children design and make. Much of this will still be verbal or carried out as part of practical activity.

However, they should help children, and teachers, identify some of the decisions which need to be made as part of the design and make process.

The childrenÂ’s records of these decisions will also help teachers when they come to make assessments of pupilsÂ’ design and technological capability.
