Newsletter November 09
Dear Parents/Carers
School News
At the end of this newsletter are the results of the Parental Questionnaire & the action we will take to improve our school. Thank you to all the parents for their responses.
Black History Theatre productions Juniors and Infants
A big thank you for your donations towards our Black History Theatre Group “Capoeira”. The children really enjoyed taking part.
Inclusion Quality Mark: This week we had a visitor, Mr Peter Bell who spent two days in our school examining our Inclusive education. We firmly believe that every child in school has the right to succeed. We are pleased to say he thought our work was excellent and we now have another award to add to our growing collection. Thank you to Mrs.West and all her team for organising all the paperwork for the inspection.
Harvest Assembly: Thank you for your generous gifts for Harvest Assembly, the children were sent some lovely thank you letters from people in our local community.
Y3 visited the RAF Museum Hendon & had a great day out.
Macbeth -Y6 (see below) have been taking part in workshops on Macbeth and were lucky enough to follow up their work by seeing an amazing production at the Millfield Theatre.
School Council Success
Last term Ms Raza and the School Council undertook a major project on designing a new playground with professional architects. The borough were so impressed with their work that they have been awarded 20K (yes 20K!) towards the playground apparatus. As soon as the building work on the new classrooms is complete we will initiate the plan. Well done to all the children for your strong commitment to the pupil voice.

Cars Safety
I have had a number of complaints by parents re car parking at pick up and drop off times. Do not park on the zig- zag lines or drive up and turn at the school gates to drop children off.
Thank you
Ms Frances Warhurst

There were 80 responses with a high rate of satisfaction from families. We take your comments seriously and this information will be shared with all staff and the Governors.
Behaviour: We are committed to our Behaviour Policy and Anti Bullying Policy shared with families at the beginning of term and copies of this can be obtained through the school office. A member of the Senior Management Team is on duty daily at the office for any parent to speak to. All classes have a Positive & Cause for Concern behaviour book where incidents are logged. If a child’s name appears in the book three times within a short period of time or for something more serious parents are requested to come in to discuss the child’s behaviour.
Homework and progress: Homework is set weekly and follows national guidelines in terms of amount set and marking. Administration errors (e.g. missing sheets) are usually rectified quickly. In the first instance, please speak to your class teacher and secondly, a member of the Senior Management team. Parents who wish to undertake more homework with their child are welcome to discuss suitable books for studying with Ms Warhurst. Teachers are obliged to allocate 3 consultation evenings a year but any parent with additional queries re their child’s progress can make additional appointments with class teachers or Miss Pomfret /Ms Warhurst.
Reception Parents were also asked about this year’s admission arrangements and 100% were very positive about home visits/lunch time arrangements /communication and how safe and happy their child is.
