Topic/Literacy
This term we will continue to work from a topic based curriculum. This means that our literacy, art, music, ICT and dance will all be linked to our topic. This half term our topic is sport and healthy living.
In literacy we are looking at persuasive texts. In particular, we will be looking at sports adverts and trailers linking to our topic. The children will be given the opportunity to use new software to produce their own trailers. The children will also be writing persuasive texts around issues and events surrounding the Olympics.
Literacy grammar
As well as having our topic based literacy lessons we will also be having one focused grammar lesson a week. This will concentrate on verbs and their tenses, adjectives, adverbs, sentence organisation and punctuation.
Numeracy
This term we will be further developing our written methods in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We will be moving onto looking at fractions, decimals and percentages. We will also be carrying out a variety of mathematical investigations, some of which will be linked to our topic.
ICT
To link in with our topic we are going to be producing trailers using new, exciting software. This will give the children the opportunity to look at sound, voice-over, image and editing.
PE
To link in with our topic we will be looking at different sports, with a focus on team work, rules and skills. In addition, Michelle Elrick will be continuing to teach key sports skills every Wednesday. These sessions help the children to develop their motor skills and co-ordination. Please ensure your child has their PE kit in school.
Art
This term we will be tie-dying and working on developing our sewing skills. Towards the end of the term we will be learning the art of silk painting.
Music
4P are going to be carrying on learning to play the guitar once a week. They will learn to read music notation and guitar playing techniques. 4H will be learning to play the recorder this half term. 4H will also be learning music notation and how to play a variety of tunes.
PSHE
We will be following a SEAL document of activities which offers opportunities for children to discuss issues surrounding themselves in our topic ‘It’s Good to Be Me.’
