Welcome to Reception

 

We are really looking forward to having lots of fun with you in Reception this year. 

Please take a look at the photos on each classes page to see all of the fantastic activities we did in Reception last year.

A Day In The Life Of A

Reception Child

At

Churchfield Primary School

 We put our coats on our pegs then sit on the carpet ready

for our teachers. 

  

Our teacher takes the register to see who is here

and then we sing the 'Days of the Week' song.

 

 

LITERACY:  We do lots of different things in Literacy.  

Some of the things we do are phonics, we learn how to read and

write, we play in our role play area, we do lots of speaking and

 listening activities and we play on the computer.  We also have an

outdoor area where we can learn independently.

At snack time, we sit in a circle and have a drink of milk or water and a piece of fruit.  

  

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

At playtime, we play in the outside area. We have a climbing frame with a slide and stepping stones 

NUMERACY:  We do lots of different things in Numeracy. 

Some of the things we do are counting activities, making patterns

(repeating and symmetrical), adding and taking away, Money,

2D and 3D shapes and problem solving.  We also carry out lots

of different Numeracy activities in our outdoor area.

At lunchtime some of us have school dinners and some of us

have packed lunch.  After we have eaten our lunch, we go into

the big playground to play.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE WORLD: 

In Knowledge and Understanding of the World, we learn how to

describe objects and living things in the world around us and learn

how to ask questions.  We also learn the skills to make models

using different tools. 

 

PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT:  In Physical Development, we learn

how to keep our bodies healthy by exercising and eating healthily. 

We do PE twice a week (indoor and outdoor).  We also follow a

curriculum called 'Leap into Life' which makes sure we exercise

for 20 minutes every day.

 

PERSONAL, SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT: 

In Personal, Social and Emotional Development, We have circle

times to talk about our feelings, friendships, rules and other

important things. We always make sure that we share and take

 turns. We are always kind to each other and ALWAYS follow the

'Golden Rules'.

 

 

 

CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT:  We do lots of different things in Creative

Development.   We do Painting, Dance, play with Musical instruments,

Role play and dressing up, Plan, Do and Review, Playdough, clay,

Collage and cutting and sticking, Printing, Drawing.  Each class

has it's own creative table so that we can be creative all day long!

 

AFTERNOON CHILD INITIATED PLAY:  During Child Initiated

play, we have an opportunity to use lots of different activities

which cover the Foundation Stage six areas of learning. 

We have lots of fun choosing what we want to learn on our own

or with our friends.

 

At home time, we choose a book from the book corner to

take home to read with our grown ups (Monday to Thursday). 

On a Friday, our teacher chooses a book for us to take home.

 

School finishes at 3.15pm.  We sing the 'Goodbye song'

and wait for our grown ups to collect us.
