The
feast of the Annunciation, also known as Lady Day, celebrates the appearance
of the archangel Gabriel to Mary, with the announcement that
she is to bear the child of God, a story told in the first chapter of
the Gospel of Luke. It is an important day for believers, a time to focus
on the doctrine of the incarnation, i.e. that the Word of God was made
flesh
