This webquest was used with Years 4 and 5.   There is a lot of material and it could be used with careful selection throughout Key Stage 2. Activities include online historical research to create a chocolate timeline, making a flowchart to show the life cycle of the plant that produces cocoa bean and a look at chocolate manufacture today. The most detailed activity is the creation of mind maps and spreadsheets relating to the problems and solutions in forming a chocolate business and the design of a non-traditional business card that is a working kaleidocycle.

Penguins
There are many webquests about penguins on the net that are appropriate for a variety of age groups and covering many curriculum areas.
Activities were selected from two webquests for Y3. Study of various species included physical characteristics, behaviour including care for young, habitats and communication and predators and prey. Creative writing skills were also extended.

This webquest introduces pupils to a variety of strategies for problem-solving. Pupils become familiar with eight strategies and practice using these and using the internet to find solutions to real-life situations. There is a good PowerPoint presentation that can be useful apart from in the context of the webquest but examples such as timetables and fare tables are American and in dollars.

Poetry

This webquest was also used with Years 3 and 4. The children thoroughly enjoyed Children enjoyed developing a variety of creative forms of expression and produced much good work. They researched and read various types of poetry, learning the parts of the different poetry forms, as well as some of the history behind each form.

The quest was teacher friendly also! It was necessary to find alternative links for several of the examples – perhaps poetry sites change often! Using google to find new links presented few problems.

Science
Unit 5A, Keeping healthy

This webquest is a variation on the theme of ‘Honey! I shrunk the kids!’ Y5 pupils become trapped in a friend’s body and research four body systems in order to find a route out.  They describe their travels in each system, plan how to get out of the body and work together in small groups to organise their information for reporting.   The children presented their reports in the form of directions for a journey.
