A very special event

It was a very exciting day at West Twyford when James DeGale, the Olympic gold medallist in boxing, came to visit.  The children had lots of questions to ask him and he visited each class.

Max:   How many Olympics have you been to?

James:   Just the one so far.

Sukina:   Why did you want to be a boxer?

James:   My Grandad encouraged me.

Carina:   How old were you when  you started boxing?

James:  I have been boxing since I was 10.  I was a bit of a naughty boy and my grandfather thought it would keep me out of trouble.

Danny enjoyed meeting a hero.

James admired the Olympics display in Y6

Malak:   Do you like watching sport on TV, and which sports?

James:   I like all sports, but especially boxing.

Ashraf got to try the medal for size!

Africa had also won a medal and brought it to school as a gift for James.

Ore:   Will you still box for England in the 2012 Olympics?

James:   Perhaps.  Only if I don't become a professional boxer.

Savanna:   Did you have another sport before you started boxing?

James:   I started boxing so young that it has been my serious sport.  I always enjoyed playing football.

Sean:   How often do you train?

James:   Before a fight I train six times a week, sometimes seven.   I like to chill on Sunday.

Jade:   Do you have to follow a special diet?

James:   When I am getting ready for a fight I follow a special diet so that I am at the right weight.

Simao:  What did you do to win the gold medal?

James:   I worked and trained hard

James' dad Leroy is very proud of his famous son.

Joy:   Why did you get chosen to go to the Olympics?

James:    Because I was the best and most likely to win.

West Twyford pupils are good listeners!

Teresa arranged the visit.  Thank you Teresa!

Rukaia:   When you won did your family give you a present?

James:   They are getting me a new car!

The nursery enjoyed their visit from James

Agnes:   Have you ever done boxing on a Nintendo Wii?

James:   Not yet but I would like to.

Sam:   Have you ever been scared when you are boxing?

James:   You get used to it.
