Physical Education 07-08

All children at West Acton Primary School are involved in Physical Education. As part of the 2010 vision, we at West Acton aim to facilitate two hours of PE/week for each child. Other than the development of physical activities and skills, we promote good team work, fairness and responsibility.

Children in Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 have 1 and 1/2 hours formal PE lessons each week with the additional 30 mins made up of 3 x '10-a-day' session with the class teacher.

Children in Key Stage 2, have 1 hours worth of formal PE lessons and also compete 5 x '12-a-day' sessions/week.

The children are finding PE enjoyable and fun. They are able to participate in after school sports clubs as well as numerous sports festivals run by the West London Academy School Sport Partnership and Active Ealing. Participation and enjoyment for sport at West Acton Primary School continues to grow from strength to strength.

PLAYGROUND FRIENDS

At West Acton Primary school we run a scheme called “Playground Friends” which encourages children to participate in traditional playground games and activities. Our playground friends are children who have volunteered to “work” in the playground, helping other children with playing and learning games, using the playground equipment and ensuring that everyone enjoys playtime and lunchtimes.

There were 20 children from Years 5 and 6, who were chosen as playground friends and had a training course, familiarising themselves with some activities specifically designed for use in the playground.

Playground friends have used their training skills to help Key Stage one pupils to enjoy their play times.

  • Pupils interact socially, take turns and co – operate with each other a lot better.
  • Playground games are enjoyable physical exercise, which contribute towards on going development of peaceful playtimes.

 Our children benefit from:-

  • Children resolving minor conflicts amongst themselves
  • Children gain confidence
  • Reduction of conflicts in the playground
  • Improved relationship between children and staff
  • Lunchtime supervisors interacting with children

As you know, PE is a compulsory part of the National Curriculum and has numerous benefits for your child’s physical and emotional development.

Please can you ensure that your child brings their correct and full kit (plimsolls/trainers, socks, shorts/jogging bottoms and shirt) every week

Load up their lunchbox

It can be a challenge for parents to regularly come up with different ways to entice children to eat healthily at lunch. The importance of eating healthily, particularly during school hours, cant be underestimated. A healthy lunchbox should help to improve your childs attention, behaviour and learning throughout the day and into the afternoon. It should provide one third of your childs daily requirements of nutrients.
