West Acton Primary School
'A welcoming community, growing and learning together'
West Acton saves the honey bees...
On the bluest, sunniest day of the year, Mrs Clarke was informed that there were some bees flying around in the playground. Not thinking much of this she wandered out, to see a swarm of honey bees zooming around the playground.
The honey bees, had decided to use our playground as a resting place in order to send out 'scouts' to find a suitable place for their new hive.
The office staff and Mrs Clarke, quickly informed the bee keeping association in Ealing to help us with this STICKY situation.
Dave (Ealing Bee Keeper) arrived with smoke machine and netting in hand to safely remove the some 20,000 bees from the playground, apparently a relatively small swarm. He will now take them to his hives where the bees can make their new homes, pollinate local flowers and make beautiful rich honey.
Thank you to Dave for being so supportive. Well done to all staff and children for remaining calm around the bees! If you would like to find out more about beekeeping or bee preservation please click here.
