Parental Involvement at St. Saviour's
PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT
Parents are warmly welcomed in school. We believe that developing positive and constructive relationships with our parents will have a direct and positive influence on pupils’ well being, self esteem and levels of achievement. We work closely with our parent body to find out what is going well and what could be improved.
Parents help in a variety of ways in and out of school, supporting in class with activities, accompanying classes on trips, or by preparing resources at home. All our parent helpers must have the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) police checks before they can help in class or on a trip.
Parents are invited to attend introductory welcome meetings in the autumn term, curriculum evenings throughout the year, parental consultation meetings with the teachers where your child’s progress and next steps can be discussed.
Parents, carers and friends of the school are invited to celebrate school Mass on Thursdays each week where we also celebrate the pupils’ baptism anniversaries. Parents are also welcome to join the school’s prayer group which meets each week in school.
We ask all our parents to sign our Home:School Agreement which has been drawn up in consultation with governors, parents and staff. This Agreement is a way to share our high expectations. This year we have included a statement about safe parking outside our school.
Reporting on Progress
A school report is sent to all parents/carers in the summer term. The parents in Key Stage One (years 1 and 2) receive a report which is completed throughout the school year and takes into account progress since September, evidence collected through the year and for year 2 pupils, achievement in statutory tests (SATs), tasks and the class teacher’s own assessment. It is the teacher’s assessment based on achievement throughout the year which carries weighting and stands as the level achieved. Parents may request to know what level their child achieved in the tests and tasks and this information will be given.
Parents of pupils in Foundation Stage receive a report based on the Foundation Stage Profile which is the document used to record pupils’ achievement throughout the Foundation Stage.
Parents have the opportunity to make an appointment to discuss their child’s report in the summer term.
School Profile
The Governing Body produces a School Profile with the Headteacher each year which informs parents about the school’s major achievements and plans. The Governing Body hosts an evening in school each year to celebrate the school’s achievements.
There are 2 Parent Governors elected by ballot in which all parents have the right to vote.
The Friends’ of St Saviour’s is a very important and enthusiastic parent body. All parents naturally become members of the Friends’ on joining our school. Parents are invited to the Annual General meeting in the autumn term where positions within the Friends are discussed and elected. All parents are encouraged to join in with fund raising events which, not only provide invaluable resources for the school but also develops a true spirit of community and belonging.
School newsletter are sent at least fortnightly to inform parents about dates, forthcoming events, celebrations, staff changes, charity events and news from the Friends Association
Questionnaires
Each year we send out “exit” questionnaires in all year groups to find out what is going well in school and what could be improved.
Family Liaison
We have an experienced member of staff, Mrs Hourahine, who acts as our Family Liaison Leader. Mrs Hourahine is available to discuss sensitive family matters which may be affecting your child’s progress, behaviour or ability. Our experience shows us that parents welcome being able to “let someone know” in confidence.
