Year 2 Trip to Roald Dahl museum – July 16th 2008

Class 2 RT had a fun filled fantastic trip to Great Missenden to visit all things Roald Dahl related. The sun was shining and 28 excited children set off in a large coach, with Mrs Tramoni and some extra helpers!

Having Lunch!

On arrival, we had a chance to stretch our legs and have a snack in the park before starting a tour of the village. We saw the post office where Mr. Dhal received over 4,000 letters a week from children around the world, and the BP pumps which inspired the description of the garage in Danny the Champion of the World. After passing Sophie’s ‘norphanage’ from The BFG, we began the walk up the hill to visit Mr Dahls’ gravestone. The children were very well behaved as we took it in turns to visit this beautiful place, on a hill overlooking the village.

After lunch at the museum, we heard from our guide Clare, how Roald Dahl liked to write in his shed with a special yellow pencil and on yellow paper. We then had an action packed tour around the Boy Gallery where we learned about Roald Dahl’s schoolboy pranks, and the story centre and crafts room where we had a chance to dresss up, make funny faces, and create a short film.

The day ended with a story telling workshop in Miss Honey’s classroom where 28 imaginations were hard at work!

Many thanks to the Friends Association for funding such a marvellous trip, and to Mrs Tramoni for her energy and enthusiasm, and the staff and parent helpers on the day.
