The Creative Curriculum
Literacy is at the heart of our creative curriculum. We teach many subjects using a cross-curricular approach. This means that there are strong links between subjects and children see learning as being connected, relevant and purposeful. Skills that they may have learnt in ICT or DT are used and applied to another context. Skills are extended and enriched through this approach and the children tell us that learning is fun! And we all know that when we enjoy something we are more likely to learn.
So what might this look like in practice?
A cross-curricular approach to the Tudors would include, Tudor poetry or the writing of a play, the play would be performed (drama) and recorded using musteks, digiblue cameras or digital cameras. This would then be edited using software. Art work would involve the use of pastels or rich paints and children would paint portraits in the style of Tudor portraits or make Tudor miniatures and the children may sew Tudor bookmarks. The curriculum is rich, key skills are taught and applied to an interesting context.
