HEALTH AND SAFETY AT GIFFORD
FIRST AID
There are first aid posts at each end of the school, but the main medical room is in the Infant department. If your child is ill during the day it is from here that you will be asked to collect her/him.
MEDICINES IN SCHOOL
*MEDICINES ARE NOT ALLOWED IN SCHOOL*
Medications for long term conditions, such as asthma, diabetes etc. may be administered after consultation with the Head and your GP. See our 'Medicines' section.
*Staff are not allowed to administer other medicines*
THE SCHOOL NURSE
The nurse is in school regularly. She is available to see parents during those times in the school medical room. She can give advice on hygiene, general health issues, immunisations, etc. If you are concerned about your child’s health this may save you a trip to the doctor.
SMOKING IN SCHOOL
Adults are role-models for children.
We are therefore proud to be a NO SMOKING SCHOOL.
Please stub out your cigarettes in the bins provided.
This is part of our health education programme.
DOGS IN SCHOOL
Dogs are not allowed on the school site.
VEHICLES IN SCHOOL
The school is a traffic-free zone from 8.40am to 3.30pm.
In the interests of all our children, please park away from school entrances.
SCHOOL SECURITY
The school site has two security zones. The perimeter gates are open from 8:30am to 9:00am and then from 3:00pm. At all other times access to the school site is controlled. Visitors should press the buttons to speak to school staff. All staff have key fobs to gain automatic access.
The internal gates are locked as soon as school is in session at 9:00am and remain locked until 3:00pm. Only pupils, staff and authorised visitors have access to the school buildings between these times. This arrangement enables pupils to move independently around the school whether they are accompanied by an adult or not.
Vehicle access is controlled at all times. Access to the site is controlled by school staff.
