Assessment
Assessment is an ongoing process which provides information about individual pupils to guide future learning. It includes observing and listening to children, marking work, formal tests and self assessment by the children.
Teachers keep records of a child’s progress throughout the year. End of year tests for children in Years 3, 4 and 5 will be undertaken in May, these are the non-statutory QCA tests.
The results contribute to an overall assessment of the child’s attainment. The information is then reported to parents at Consultation Evenings and in the written end of year report.
The Local Education Authority requires schools to administer a Non-Verbal Reasoning test for pupils in Year 4. [NVR]
National Curriculum Tests (SAT’s) for Year 6 pupils in English, Mathematics and Science take place each year in May. The results of these tests and Teacher Assessments are reported to parents using the National Curriculum levels.
Parents/carers are welcome to discuss their child’s progress and level of attainment with class teachers or the Head Teacher. Detailed records of your child’s data are available to you. Please give us notice.
There are two main forms of assessment:
1. Tests that are carried out at the end of a specific period of time in which children record their answers generally in a written format. The tests carried out in May and the SATs are tests.
2. On-going assessments in which the teacher makes informed judgements against set criteria is known as Teacher Assessment [TAs]
