Does the LAC Academy monitor attendance, like a normal school?

The Academy has an ‘Attendance Officer’, a role within the remit of the Achievement & Inclusion Officer – Gareth Delany

Within this role his task is to carefully monitor and improve attendance and to help students to achieve 100% wherever possible. He is in regular contact with the social workers and other social care staff helping them identify and remedy any problems with attendance.

If you, as a foster carer [or Key Worker], are aware your young person is unable to attend school, it is vital that you ring school at the earliest opportunity. This will ensure that you, and the social worker, are not contacted needlessly to find out an explanation for the absence.

If you have any queries in regards to absence recording at the authority level please contact me and I’ll try to answer any questions – Gareth Delany tel: 0207 974 7165.

The Camden LAC Academy is very keen to reward those students who achieve excellent attendance throughout the year.

A range of initiatives is planned for implementation in the forthcoming school year (September 2007) including:

·        Attendance Certificates at the end of every term

·        Awarding £10 for a student who has made a significant improvement in his or her attendance

·        On the last day of every month we will be awarding £5 to one student who has achieved 100% attendance for that month – randomly drawn by one of our Social Care LAC Team Managers!

Winners will be highlighted on this website, so keep an eye out for further details in September.
