 Education Welfare Officer

An Education Welfare Officer maybe able to help you with the

following issues: -

 

• We can advise parents and carers about their legal responsibilities if their child does not attend school regularly and on time.

• We can provide information on finding a school or transferring from one school to another.

• We can help you to understand how school systems work.

• We can advise you on the best people to contact if your child has special educational needs.

• We can help you to communicate difficulties to school staff. This may include arranging for an interpreter to be present.

• We can give short-term support to your child if he or she is having a difficult time in school.

• We can help you to understand what happens if your child is excluded from school.

• We can give you information about other help available in the borough.

• We can let you know about educating your child at home, if you choose to do so.
