2007 to 2008 Hands on Support Offer
The Hands on Support (HoS) initiative provides professional development in the use of ICT for Primary school teachers. It is designed to increase the capacity of schools to develop their use of ICT to support learning and teaching.
The HoS programme focuses on in-class support for teachers in order to develop good practice in their use of ICT for teaching and learning. It is further refined for its fourth year in 2007-08 to provide a combination of termly shared events and school-specific support, together with a range of practical teaching and learning resources to help schools make the best use of the software and digital resources purchased using eLearning Credit funds.
Professional Development ‘Projects’
Each participating school is involved in a programme of professional development that we are referring to as a project. This includes six or seven days of practical advisory support, including:
• three or four days, depending upon project size, of classroom-based support for teachers in school, with known advisory staff familiar with our schools
• three days of professional training and networking days at the City Learning Centre (CLC) sharply focused on school needs
• support towards gaining recognition of each participating teacher’s learning through a GTC Teacher Learning Academy (TLA) Certificate
It will also be possible to include:
• an after-school training session for all staff in a school
• the opportunity to share success and achievements in an authority-wide forum
• access to ICT advice for the ICT Subject Leader and school Management Team
• use of the CLC by class groups, supported by an adviser
The exact programme is for the school and consultant to decide together.

Termly Professional Development Days
The professional development days will typically include some or all of the following:
• An update and information session about national and local initiatives in the use of ICT.
• A presentation from a Camden school sharing its experience in the use of ICT in the classroom.
• An introduction to new software resources available to Camden schools, together with a training session in their use.
• A chance to try out teaching and learning resources created for the programme; including lesson plans, photocopiable support materials and computer resources.
• Opportunities for teachers to talk with advisers to explore how best a project might be organised to suit the specific needs of their schools.
Resources
All schools will be able to use the teaching materials and learning resources developed for the programme and made available here in the ICT area of the Camden Grid for Learning (www.camden.lgfl.net) together with the latest news and details about the programme –recently published materials include those for 2Create a Story, 2Investigate and Kar2ouche.
This revised model provides greater flexibility to employ the support opportunities across the whole financial year.
Schools will receive specific invitations to participate together with options for dates to visit the CLC with a class, to participate in central INSET and to book onsite visits directly from the ICT Consultant assigned to their Learning Community.
