What happens at a Governing body meeting?

002041

Full Governing Body Meetings
The full governing body meeting meets at least once a term. At most Camden schools there are two meetings per term.

Before each meeting you will be provided with an agenda together with any papers that need to be considered.

The agenda may vary from meeting to meeting but the items listed come up very frequently.

Apologies
Governors note any messages that have been sent from people who are not able to attend, and agree whether to accept them or not.

Membership of the Governing Body
Governors review the membership of the governing body.

Minutes of the Previous Meeting
Minutes of the previous meeting are reviewed. Governors will agree any amendments necessary so that the minutes are an accurate reflection of the meeting.

Matters Arising
Governors will discuss matters in the minutes which are ongoing and where developments have arisen.

Headteacher’s Report
The Headteacher will provide either a written or oral report at each meeting. Contents could include; number of pupils on roll, staffing arrangements, exam results, behaviour issues, budget matters and anything pertinent to the school at the time.

Chair’s and Governors’ Items
The Chair often uses this slot to report on any correspondence he/she has received from the LA of the DfES. Governors can also take this time as an opportunity to raise any matters that are important to them.

Confidential Items
At some meetings, governors may need to discuss delicate issues relating to staff or individual pupils. These discussions will be recorded separately and will not form part of the minutes that are available for public review. Non governors or governors with a conflict of interest are asked to leave this part of the meeting.

Training
LAs have a duty to provide necessary training. Camden’s
Training and Media Service holds regular and specific training sessions for governors each term.
