Transforming Learning
PfS and Microsoft would like to extend an invitation to each LA to a one day conference at the Camden City Learning Centre.

The focus of the workshop will be on personalised learning and how new and existing technologies can support learning.

Transforming learning is the ultimate aim of BSF. Microsoft and PFS will work with you to create a clear vision of the future of learning, with a range of resources, processes and guidance that will support the successful implementation of your BSF programme.

The workshop objectives are
•To raise awareness of developing technologies to support personalised learning

•To consider how transformed learning through ICT will be developed from strategy for change through to informed competitive dialogue

•To provide Educational scenarios: models and practical examples to show how technology can support improved educational outcomes

•To enable colleagues from waves 4 and 5 to share current good practice and ideas for development.

We wll focus on 4 key questions.

•Why change? – why not improve what we have. Does the global context matter?

•Transformation? – what does it look like?

•How do I get there? – and where am I headed!

•Where are the exemplars? - I want to see, touch and feel the future.

Designing Educational Technologies for Social Justice
A new (April 2008) handbook from education innovator Futurelab shows how learners can play a key role in the design of educational technology, and so help tackle growing inequalities in education. Funded by CfBT Education Trust, "Designing Educational Technologies for Social Justice" explores the role that digital technologies can play in reducing inequality in education and offers guidance on designing educational resources that benefit disadvantaged learners.

All the Conference assets/presentations.

I’d like to invite you to attend the ICT in Building Schools for the Future conference that we are organising in partnership with Education Guardian on 18 March this year.  Focusing specifically on ensuring that ICT takes its rightful place within all BSF projects, this event is designed to answer your questions about the process, share good practice from early projects and update you on latest developments in BSF.

To view the event programme and get all the information you need visit: www.educationguardian.co.uk/bsfevent

We hope that the event will provide you with an opportunity to ask questions, share experiences with colleagues from around the country and to meet with us, BECTA and wider partners that are helping deliver the BSF programme Colleagues from the private sector will also be attending the conference to hear more about BSF and to share their own perspectives of the programme.

Sharing experiences and spreading best practice is essential if we are to make the most of this unprecedented opportunity to transform education for generations to come. As such, we would like to offer you a free delegate place or, if you are unable to attend, for a member of your team.   (Contact Stephen Davies for the free place code to enter on the website.)  If you have any problems or queries regarding the event please contact emma.whitehead@kable.co.uk.

I appreciate that spring is an extremely busy time for everyone, but I do hope you will be able to join us at the conference.

Douglas Adams
I've come up with a set of rules that describe our reactions to technologies:

1. Anything that is in the world when you're born is normal and ordinary and is just a natural part of the way the world works.
2. Anything that's invented between when you're fifteen and thirty-five is new and exciting and revolutionary and you can probably get a career in it.
3. Anything invented after you're thirty-five is against the natural order of things.
