English at Bridge
The main group follow the GCSE English curriculum, which includes 4 pieces of written coursework:
· Personal Writing
· Shakespeare
· Pre 19th Century prose
· Media
As well as written coursework there is Speaking and Listening coursework and preparation for the English GCSE examinations, which involves studying media and advertising texts and studying ‘Poetry from other Cultures and Traditions’.
The foundation group follow an English based curriculum which is particularly aimed at improving standards in reading and comprehension. The course is taught in a mixture of long and short units including studying a whole group text (prose) and independent reading units in both prose and poetry. Throughout the year students sit unit awards in English.
