Introduction to the 6th Form
The 6th Form at Copthall builds on the ethos and strength of what is a very good school but offers a new sense of challenge and responsibility. Copthall School and its 6th Form are a highly successful, girls’ only community comprehensive with outstanding results. In 2007 the A Level results placed us in the top 10% of comprehensive schools nationally (A Level Performance Systems (ALPs) 2007). This degree of success and the consistently high level of value we add to our students’ attainment is across all A Level subjects. This success is due to:-

The focus on learning and teaching and in particular, on developing a more adult responsibility for learning by students

Specialist teachers delivering subjects which they are qualified to deliver

At Copthall School, we believe that being a girls’ only environment is supportive of the highest possible levels of attainment, including in those subject areas traditionally underrepresented by girls such as Maths and the Sciences. Both areas are real strengths of Copthall. Our specialist status in Business and Enterprise and Languages also adds value to the curriculum and attainment. At Copthall, students have a range of option choices from subjects that they are familiar with, to those which are new. They are supported carefully in their choice of subjects taking in to account their prior attainment, progress and future plans. Being a girls’ only environment builds confidence and skills which prepare our young women well for the fast changing world beyond school. At Copthall traditional values combined with an outward looking approach lead to not only academic success but educational success in the widest sense. Girls have access to a wide range of enrichment activities many of which support the school and wider local community. The commitment of a high calibre staff combined with extremely positive approaches to learning by students makes Copthall 6th Form an attractive place to be for both our ‘home’ grown students and those who join the 6th Form from other schools. (Between 20-30% of our 6th Form join us for the first time in Year 12).
