Technology College Specialist Status

The Compton School achieved specialist Technology College status from September 2002. Specialist status means that we are able to provide enhanced learning opportunities for our pupils. These opportunities include:

  • 8 high quality Information Communication Technology (ICT) suites for use by our pupils and additional ICT facilities in the new library/learning centre
  • A more diverse curriculum with new qualifications and courses during and after school to maximise achievement
  • Inspirational teaching and learning - exploiting the most up to date ICT
  • Working even more closely with our partner schools and colleges to enhance pupils’ educational progression in to The Compton and beyond in to sixth form studies
  • Working with companies and other organisations to bring ‘the real world’ in to school

 

Achievements

  • Four new ICT suites, bringing the school’s full class computer suites to six.
  • The introduction of GCSE Applied ICT (double award– worth two GCSEs for Year 10 pupils.
  • New ICT courses in Years 7 and 9.
  • The introduction of GCSE Science (double award – worth two GCSEs ) for all pupils in year 10
  • The introduction of ICT courses for the community, in partnership with local schools and colleges
  • Coaching of year 10/ 11 pupils by business coaches
