RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITY
- Staff and students must treat each other with respect, regardless of ability, race, colour, sex, sexuality or belief.
- We must treat other people and their property with the respect we wish to receive ourselves.
CONDUCT IN LESSONS
- Teachers and students must be on time for lessons
- Students line up quietly outside the room, to avoid disturbance and enter when told by a member of staff.
- Students get their equipment ready for the lesson and wait to be told to sit down.
- Students listen to the teacher and their peers in silence.
- If students wish to speak, they must put up their hands.
- Teachers and students must leave the lesson area tidy and all the furniture in place.
- Students are dismissed and leave the room in an orderly manner.
SCHOOL WORK
- Work should be the student’s own, as it has much greater value than that copied from books and internet. If you copy another student’s work, you may be getting their work but you may also be getting their mistakes.
HOMEWORK
- This is set and completed according to the homework timetable ready for the due date set by the teacher.
- It should be completed to the best of your ability.
MOVEMENT AROUND THE SCHOOL
- We must move around the school in a sensible and considerate way.
- No running is allowed inside the building.
- To avoid congestion and to help ensure safety on the stairs, everyone should walk on the left.
- Students should go straight to their next lesson and not wait around on corridors for any reason.
OUT OF BOUNDS
- ‘Out of bounds’ areas can be found on the maps in all the form rooms.
- For your own safety, do not go into the ‘out of bounds’ areas.
FIGHTING Fighting is completely rejected as a way of solving disputes at The Compton School. Instead of fighting, students should: walk away in a non confrontational manner -talk to a member of staff -talk to a peer mediator BULLYING We aim to create an environment which is safe. The school is totally opposed to bullying of all kinds.
- Any case of bullying is treated seriously by staff.
- If anyone experiences or knows about bullying they should tell a member of staff immediately.
THE ENVIRONMENT
- We are all responsible for keeping our environment clean.
- We are a ‘chewing gum’ free school.
- The Compton School strives to be a ‘Litter Free’ school.
- We respect our environment and as a result we put our rubbish in one of the bins provided throughout the premises.
- Any student dropping litter may have to stay behind after school for a litter detention.
- Graffiti should be reported immediately and it will be removed.
- Vandalism of school property or resources is a serious offence and is treated as such.
SWEARING
- Swearing is strictly forbidden.
EATING AND DRINKING ON SCHOOL PREMISES We strive to make break and lunchtime a pleasant experience for everyone by being thoughtful and considerate.
- Students should queue for the canteen patiently in two’s and not try to push in.
- When students have finished eating, trays must be replaced, tables left tidy and clean, and the area cleared of litter.
- Eating and drinking is not allowed in classrooms, corridors or on the playground.
- Students must not eat during lessons, but students are allowed to drink water.
- Chewing gum is not allowed on the school premises. It leaves mess which is almost impossible to clean off.

- Staff and students are not allowed to smoke anywhere in the buildings or on the grounds.
- Students are not allowed to smoke on the way to or from school.
