The Upper Fifth Year is very busy for most boys. We start the year with two interviews for each boy – the first to hand over his feedback from the questionnaire and aptitude profile completed at the end of the Lower Fifth Year, and the second to follow up on the ideas that he has been considering in the light of the feedback.

Use of the Careers Resources and Work Experience will be among the topics covered at the information evening for Upper Fifth students and their parents, held at the beginning of the Michaelmas Term.

At the beginning of November, members of the Upper Fifth are invited to attend the Careers Conversazione (our annual Careers Convention), which will assist them with their Careers research, and with ideas for Work Experience.

All Work Experience requests need to be returned by the end of the Michaelmas Term – placements will be allocated on a “first come, first served” basis.

At the beginning of the Lent Term, following their mock exams, the boys are asked to make their options for Sixth Form study. There are two evening events associated with this – an “Options Evening” and an evening when parents (and boys) can discuss progress with the subject teachers.

As soon as possible after the end of his GCSE exams, each boy will complete a Work Experience Placement. This will be for a minimum of one week, but could be longer if the host agrees.

The Connexions Careers Service is a free service available to all young people. We have a linked adviser and will be happy to arrange individual interviews for any boy who feels that he would welcome their assistance. The nearest Connexions office is on the High Street in Croydon.

Liaison Officers from HM Armed Forces visit two or three times during the year. The dates of the visits are advertised in the Calendar, and boys may request appointments to talk with the Liaison Officers. The first time a boy asks to see one of the Liaison Officers, his parent/guardian will be informed in writing.

All boys and their parents are strongly urged to make sure that they are at home when the examination results are published, and for at least one week after that, just in case there is any need to discuss options at that point. The Careers Department will be open, and a number of other staff will also be available for consultation.
