All of the photographs and documents used in this section come from the archives of the Imperial War Museum in south east London. This museum contains four floors of fascinating exhibits and narrative displays showing every aspect of conflict in the 20th century. Permanent displays include the 'Trench' and 'Blitz' experiences, 'Secret War', 'Conflicts since 1945' and the Art Galleries.

The Museum is open daily from 10 to 6. Admission is £5.50 for adults but free to children and senior citizens. The nearest tubes are Lambeth North, Waterloo and Elephant and Castle.

Information for teachers

Schools can book a Free Education Visit:
The Education Office at the Imperial War Museum is responsible for visiting groups of school age. All visits are free. All schools have to do is book at least two weeks before they would like to visit.

Each school can bring a total number of 60 pupils plus staff. One adult is admitted free with every seven children.
