Clicker 4: An Introduction

Clicker is a powerful yet easy to use writing and multimedia tool. It enables children to write into a word processing programme with whole words and pictures. Designed for children of all abilities, Clicker is practically an 'industry standard' in UK schools, and is rapidly being adopted in other countries, particularly the United States.

Clicker is supported with high quality speech, and is easy to customize for individual needs. It also has a wide range of accessibility options for users who cannot use a mouse or keyboard.

‘Clicker 4’ can be used for a wide variety of activities across the curriculum and the ability range: from making grids to enable children using switch access to practise their scanning skills to enlarging the vocabulary of older and more able primary school children by providing examples of new words for them to incorporate in text.

This course will include the following activities:

  • Introduction to ‘Clicker 4’ and examples of its application in school.
  • How to make a ‘Clicker’ grid
  • How to personalise your grid by adding pictures and sounds, how to change the colour, the font etc.
  • How to make a talking book.
  • How to put digital photographs into ‘Clicker’.
  • Introduction to the www.learninggrids.com website where you can get resources made by others for use in your school.
  • Supporting in-class activities
