Over 90,000 digitised video clips and nearly 12m still photographs from news stories between 1896 -1976 on topics from sport to fashion, politics to war
Launch The British Pathe Archive
www.pathe.lgfl.net

British Pathe have digitised these news stories to provide a unique online resource covering all manner of topics from sport to fashion, politics to war. The site has over 3,500 digitised video clips and nearly 12m stills.

The LGfL service, where schools could download clips and photographs when accessing the British Pathé website ‘on grid’, ended on 31st July 2012.

However, it is still possible to view the whole archive (in lower resolution and with a watermark) directly from the British Path website (www.britishpathe.com) at no cost.

Some important points to note about the legacy resources that may exist in schools:

  • Under the terms of the original agreement any British Pathé films which LGfL users have downloaded during this agreement can be used by Teachers for a further 12 months from the expiry date, but teachers must cease using the films thereafter and delete the film files from their PC’s.
  • Pupils may continue to use the film in perpetuity but only for the purpose it was originally downloaded.
  • At no point can teachers or pupils publish British Pathé films on the worldwide web.
