About the London Grid for Learning


​The LGfL Trust is a consortium of the London local authorities and 2.500 schools working together to provide extensive and cost effective ICT services, particularly for school broadband services. By working together schools save millions of pounds a year (about £35,000 per primary and £135,000 per secondary school) compared to schools purchasing the same services individually. To undertake collective procurements and other business, the consortium established a non-profit company and charitable trust in 2001. The day-to-day operation of the company is the responsibility of the Chief Executive who is accountable to the Executive Board and other boards.
 
The LGfL is a member of the NEN Education Network to ensure that all schools, colleges and universities are connected through a single backbone enabling a high quality e-learning experience in a safe and secure networked environment.

Parking
  • In local streets, where available, is unrestricted and free (there is always space in the Park View car park - 5 minute walk)
  • There is a single visitor space (no. 30) at road level accessed from Dukes Avenue.
  • There are two disabled bays situated outside the building which are usually chained off. Please call in advance of arrival if a disabled parking bay is required.

LGfL Acceptable Use Policy
This acceptable use policy describes acceptable use of the London Grid for Learning by the organisation which connects to the LGfL for the purpose of providing educational, governmental and other related services to students.

LGfL Security Policy
The purpose of the Security Policy is to protect the London Grid for Learning, its LA members and their schools, staff, children, other connecting organisations and the public from information security threats, whether internal or external, deliberate or accidental from all users.

The purpose of this document is to regulate all connections to the London Grid for Learning.

LGfL 2.0 Service Level Agreement / LGfL 2.0 Network Services Agreement
These are the agreements that schools are committed to when signing up to LGfL 2.0.

Data Processing

London Grid for Learning and its suppliers, as Data Processors are legally required by the Data Protection Act 1998 to comply with eight principles of good information handling.

These eight principles state that data must be:

  • fairly and lawfully processed
  • processed for limited purposes
  • adequate, relevant and not excessive
  • accurate and up to date
  • not kept longer than necessary
  • processed in accordance with the individual's rights
  • secure
  • not transferred to countries outside the European Economic area, unless there is adequate protection

The London Grid for Learning uses leading technologies and encryption software to safeguard your data, and prevent any unauthorised access to it. We do not pass on your details to any third party or government department unless you give us permission to do so, or we are obliged or permitted by law to disclose it.

Infrastucture Supplier

Virgin Media Business are the new infrasture supplier for the LGfL 2.0 service offering. Their network infrastructire will be managed by the Atomwide service desk.

Synetrix is the incumbent supplier for the broadband infrastructure as well as a number of security and other managed services.

 

Managed Learning Environment Supplier

The London MLE is the LGfL's online learning platform and is an enhanced service wrap of the product provided by Fronter.

 

Application and Support Services

Atomwide provide various application and support services. Examples include supporting the Virgin supplied school broadband connections and USO based services.
