09-07-2012: LGfL 2.0 update

The migration of schools’ broadband connections from LGfL1 to the new LGfL 2.0 network has recently passed a significant milestone. There are now over 1000 schools connected and successfully commissioned onto the new regional network. The total of these connections is 47Gbps which when compared to the total for all 2216 directly connected sites on LGfL1 of 38Gbps shows how much more capacity the new network is bringing to schools. Since Easter, Virgin Media Business has significantly increased the delivery rate of new connections and, subject to schools giving access to engineers when needed, the migration off LGfL1 will be completed within the Autumn Term.

A range of the old services related to LGfL1 will be discontinued from 31st July and the LGfL 2.0 replacements for these have been available for many months. Any schools still using the old services are cautioned to transfer as a matter of urgency. Termination details available
